I started this portrait several months ago. The subject has increased in stature since then, but the dress she wears was too big for her when I started so it might be a good thing (you can see how it hangs off her a bit in the painting). She was really a perfect sitter, and has been urging me to finish it – so I think she may actually be happy with it. This is no small thing, as she happens to be a very stern (and perceptive) critic. I think I may have even captured that part of her personality!
Well, days later, and I have made some progress, although not finished yet.
My sitter admonished me when I suggested it was close to being finished, “It’s not finished yet, you have to paint the details — don’t be a lazy painter!” So the all important lace and pearl embellishment will be next.
